Karate Ranking System

Karate has a specific system of coloured belts

There are 10 ranks with different belt colours in karate, But it can vary from school to school. So here an example:

You will start with the 9th rank

  • 9th White Belt

    For beginners under 9 years of age

  • 8th Yellow Belt

    (For beginners)

  • 7th Orange Belt

    Training for minimum 6 more months

  • 6th Green Belt

    Training for approximately 9 months after orange

  • 5th Blue Belt

    Almost 1 year of training after green belt

  • 4th Purple Belt

    1 and a half more year training is approx. required

  • 3rd – 1st Brown Belt

    All the brown belts varies but take each about 2 years of mastery

  • Shodan 1st BLACK BELT

    To achieve the black belt it can take up to 40 years of training like mentioned above:
    The reason are the Dan of the black belts. There are 10 Dan in the black belt category. As the Dan grows the years of training will grow as well.

  4. Observe beginners first rather than advanced karate people. They will look scary and you will get to know how loud they can be due to screams. In order to get a good view, what expects you, it’s much better to observe beginners in action. Only throw them you will be able to decide if you join or not.
